Collaboration with parents ensures a good everyday experience at day-care
The day-care centre’s open, committed, and trusting collaboration with parents is the basis for a successful everyday experience at the day-care centre for the child. At our Engel day-care centres, collaboration between home and the centre is smooth and seamless in everyday encounters, in messaging channels, in discussions about early childhood education and care, and on the parents’ committee.
We primarily make announcements about our operations using the Kidplan messaging application. We publish a weekly update about the week’s early childhood education and care for parents, as well as other current affairs. At the end of the month, we also publish an update on each specific children’s group.
In order to facilitate everyday logistics and reminders, the day-care centre also has its own Whatsapp group, which every parent can join if they wish. We use the group to inform parents of any urgent general matters. We use private communications to take care of personal matters concerning the child.
Early childhood education discussions support the child’s individual growth
At Engel day-care centres, every child receives education, guidance and care that suits their own needs and level of development. Together with parents, we create an overview of the child and increase understanding on both sides. Collaboration with parents means that together we commit to promoting the child’s health and safe growth.
When a child starts at the day-care centre, we hold an initial early childhood education discussion with the parents. In the discussion, we want to hear current information about the child from the parents, go through the day-care centre’s methods and activities, agree on matters pertaining to beginning early childhood education, and hear the parents’ thoughts and wishes.
We organise individual early childhood education discussions for the child regularly every term. The discussion goes through the child’s early childhood education plan and evaluates the plan’s progress. If the parents wish, such discussions can be held more often.
Engel day-care centres organise a parents’ evening for all parents during the autumn term. In addition, Engel Viiskulma holds a preschool parents’ evening. At the parents’ evening, parents are told about the day-care centre’s early childhood education and current affairs.
The parents’ committee offers enjoyable socialising
We want to support collaboration between parents. Each Engel centre has its own parents’ committee. All of the parents of children at the day-care centre are automatically members of the committee. It is good to elect a few directors of the parents’ committee.
The parents’ committee is part of the day-care centre’s community activities. It is free-form socialising for parents with the aim of parents and their children getting to know one another within the framework of the committee. This also supports long-lasting friendships between the parents and children.
The children feel that their parents’ participation in the day-care community is important and the day-care centre’s collaboration with parents promotes the children’s wellbeing. A positive atmosphere and mutual respect between the adults ensures a good, safe everyday experience at the day-care centre.
